    High Commission of India in Ottawa in collaboration with the Canada-India Centre of Excellence in Carleton University organised the International Women’s Day on 8 March, 2017. The theme of the event was Gender and Empowerment. Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development was the keynote speaker at the event. Other dignitaries included President of Carleton University, Roseann O'Reilly Runte, Board of Governors, Dr. Pradeep Merchant and Deputy High Commissioner Arun Kumar Sahu. 

    The event also included a panel discussion on women’s empowerment and how it relates to women in the workforce, particularly in science and management, and in developing countries. The panel included Banu Örmeci, Professor and Jarislowsky Chair in Water and Global Health, Lorraine Dyke, Professor and Associate Dean, Sprott School of Business and Gopika Solanki, Associate Professor, Political Science, Carleton University. The panel was moderated by Pauline Rankin, Associate Vice-President (Research and International), Carleton University.
