How to apply for Attestation of POA / Documents

STEP 1- Arrange the documents for Attestation :

  1. Application form duly filled in, photo pasted and signed at the specified place [the application may be filled at the following link:

  1. Original Power of Attorney / Document to be attested
  2. Copy of Power of Attorney / Document to be attested
  3. Passport copy –Self-attested photocopy of pages of Passport having Personal Particulars
  4. Address proof for Canada: self-attested copy
    (Any one out of : Driving licence, Ontario ID, Utility bill e.g. Water, Electricity, Gas, Internet/Wi-fi, Mobile bill)
  5. Only for Indian Passport holders - Immigration status in Canada (Work permit/ Study permit/ PR and LANDING PAPER) – self attested copy
  1. Additional requirements:

For Attestation of Power of Attorney

A. If you are Canadian Passport Holder

The Power of Attorney must be attested from DFAITD / Global Affairs Canada.

B.If you are citizen of a country (other than Canada and India)

The Power of Attorney must be attested from Embassy / High Commission / Consulate of your country in Canada.

For Attestation of Document

(Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Passport Copy,  Educational Certificate, etc.)

A. If the document issued by Canada Government authorities

The document must be attested from DFAITD / Global Affairs Canada.

B. If the document issued by Indian Government authorities

The document is must be apostilled/attested first from India (Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. Refer link www.mea.gov.in/apostille.htm )

C. If the document issued by any other country than Canada and India

The Power of Attorney must be attested / Apostiled  from Embassy / High Commission / Consulate / Government authorities of your country .

STEP – 2:  Appointment for visiting High Commission for Attestation :

Once you are able to arrange the documents, you can book appointment on Suvidha Portal (at the below link) for visiting High Commission of India, Ottawa, (10 Springfield Road, Ottawa, Ontario, K1M 1C9] for attestation of document / POA :

Note:

  1. Please cross check the documents (in the checklist at above link) carefully before visiting High Commission and bring while coming for Attestation.
  2. All the executant(s)/signatory of the POA/document need to visit High Commission.  In case there are witnesses, they also have to come and sign in front of the official of the High Commission. The witnesses visit to High Commission can be avoided, if the document is signed by all before a Notary and thereafter brought to the High Commission for attestation.
  3. Fee can be paid by Debit Card also.
  4. Before submitting any request / application, Please make sure that you are based within the Consular Jurisdiction of High Commission of India, Ottawa.  The consular jurisdiction can be checked at the below link:
