Invitation to 'Make in India' Week (13-18 February, 2016)

1.Prime Minister of India, Hon'ble Narendra Modi, had launched the 'Make in India' campaign in September 2014 to facilitate investment, foster innovation, enhance skill development and build best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure in India.

2.India has since become the faster-growing major economy in the world, as well as, the world's topmost green field FDI destination in January-June 2015. It figures among the top ten FDI destinations in the world and is the first choice for Tech MNCs (Multi-National Corporations) to set up R&D centres outside their home countries. India is likely to maintain the growth momentum in 2016 and 2017 as well as, in the years to come.

3.To build on the process a "Make in India' Week is proposed to be held in Mumbai from 13-18 February, 2015. The flagship event is aimed at propelling the Indian economy by forging global engagement with Indian industry in the form of partnerships and investments. It will showcase the potential of design, innovation and sustainability across India's focus sectors through a series of highly viable outreach initiatives. The key focus sectors include:

  • Defence & Aerospace
  • Automobiles & Auto Components
  • Chemicals & Petrochemicals
  • Construction Equipment, Material & Technology
  • Food Processing
  • Infrastructure Development
  • IT & Electronics
  • Industrial Equipment & Machinery
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Textiles
  • Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises
4.During the course of the Week, a number of initiatives and events have been scheduled including:
  • Inauguration of the event by Prime Minister on 13th February
  • CNN Asia Business Forum on 14th February
  • Global Design & Innovation Session on 15th February
  • Driving Innovation: Hackathon on 16th February
  • Conference on "Empowering Through Design" on 17th February
  • States specific investors summits - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand
