Public Notice on PIO Cards 

Government of India has phased out PIO Cards. All the PIO cardholders are required to apply for conversion of PIO card to OCI.

To prevent inconvenience to travellers, it has been decided that Bureau of Immigration, Government of India will accept handwritten PIO Cards as valid travel document till 30^th September, 2020 alongwith valid foreign passport and the Indian Immigration Check Post(s) will continue to consider all PIO cards valid for exit from/entry into India till 30^th September, 2020.

This extension of timeline is subject to the condition that if in the meantime any deadline is notified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) thereby making hand written PIO cards invalid, PIO cardholders will have to obtain appropriate visa from Indian Missions / Posts.
