Public Advisory for timely Passport Renewal

Several instances of expiry of validity of Indian passports due to negligence/delay in renewal have come to the notice of the High Commission. We have also received numerous requests for expedited renewal of passports from Indian nationals in Canada.

It is reiterated that applications for renewal of passports can be submitted anytime within one year of the expiry date. It is observed that many applicants delay submitting their applications for renewal of passports till the last moment which causes them avoidable anxiety. It may be noted at as per extant provisions, passport renewal process requires a minimum of 4 weeks and can extend to 6 weeks or more in certain cases where fresh police verification is required.

The High Commission advises that Indian nationals in Canada may apply for renewal of passport well in time to avoid inconvenience.
