Visit of Canadian Defence Minister Mr Harjit Sajjan to India

 Canadian National Defence Minister Mr Harjit Sajjan visited India from April 17 -22, 2017. The purpose of his visit was to deepen bilateral defence and security cooperation between the two countries. Minister Sajjan was given guard of honour on April 18, 2017, before holding bilateral talks with the Indian Defence Minister Shri Arun Jaitley. Both leaders discussed issues to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation, and expand partnerships in the defence and security sectors. Minister Sajjan also called on External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj. Later in the day, Minister Sajjan addressed the Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi and spoke on the theme Conflict Prevention and Peacekeeping in a Changing World. Minister Sajjan called on Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Monohar Lal Khatter on April 21, and discussed issues of investment, especially Canadian investment in the sectors of defence, education and smart cities. Minister Sajjan visited the Golden Temple, his native village Bombeli, Hoshiarpur, Punjab and also inaugurated Canadian Consulate in Chandigarh on April 20. Before wrapping his visit, Minister Sajjan visited Mumbai Port, and also met businessmen and industrialists on April 22.
